There are many different ways to take a baby’s temperature. During first two months of life the most effective way is to use a digital rectal thermometer. If the temperature is higher than 100.4 degrees F, call your pediatrician right away.

There are many different types of thermometers for older children:

  • Oral/under tongue
  • Ear
  • Forehead scan

For children beyond the newborn period, the best thermometer is the one you feel most comfortable using.
